The WLTC will be the host club to the CIBC Wood Gundy Women's $25,000 Challenger which will run July 20 - 28. For those who are not familiar with the various levels of Professional Tennis, this is one step below the top level. The women who will be playing in this tournament will have a ranking between 80 and 250 in the world!
As you can imagine, this is a large event. It will be run by Tennis Manitoba. Rob Langan will be the Tournament Director. One of his duties will be to coordinate a large group of volunteers to make the event as successful as possible. Luckily, there are already several generous ladies who have offered to help coordinate the volunteer efforts.
I know that there are a lot of you who may be interested in helping out and being involved in the action. Below is an explanation of the various aspects of the tournament for which we will need volunteers. There is also a link to sign-up for the various tasks. Please note that if you sign-up, you will be briefed on your duties prior to the tournament.
- Construction Crew Sign-up
There will be several small fences as well as some other small structures that will need to be built. Building will take place Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14. We have Hugh Hull from Good Guys Builders who has sponsored the tournament through his services. He will be leading the construction. We simply need people to hammer nails, paint, get a tan, and drink some beverages.
- VIP Tent Sign-up
Sponsors and players are VIP's. There is a separate tent courtside for them. Volunteers for this tent will be responsible for ensuring that the VIP's have everything they need and that only VIP's are in the tent.
- Hospitality Sign-up
We will have a Player/Guest Services Desk set up within the grounds. Volunteers manning this desk will be the first point of contact for various questions that either players or guests may have.
If you won't have the time to volunteer, be sure to book off some time to come and watch some wonderful tennis. If you have any questions, please visit the tournament website at winnipegchallenger.com or contact Rob at [email protected].
